Xylene - has been given a hazard number by US Chemical Abstracts Service and is used as a material in the chemical, plastics, and synthetic fiber industries. This printing solvent is one of the top 30 synthetic chemicals produced in the US in terms of volume. Chemical industries produce xylene from petroleum/coal tar as a printing solvent. Exposure can cause headaches, lack of muscle coordination, dizziness, confusion, and changes in one¹s sense of balance and high level exposure can also cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat; difficulty in breathing; problems with the lungs; delayed reaction time; memory difficulties; stomach discomfort; and possibly changes in the liver and kidneys. Xylene affects the brain and is also a POSSIBLE REPRODUCTIVE HAZARD - it may cause fetotoxicity - research obtained from the extremely objectionable results of animal testing.
